    Provide analytical support and insights regarding actionable items to improve business results. A key focus of the position is to support profitability and growth of the corporation by ensuring effective analysis and planning. The role will focus on analysis, interpretation, guidance and recommendations regarding sales, gross margin, inventory, prescription drug pricing and expense variances, trends, and relationships to plan and history. This role will require working with cross-functional groups to understand and financially evaluate business strategies; budgeting, forecasting and analyses; identifying opportunities and risks as well as business drivers. The person will be expected to use their financial acumen and experience to draw conclusions from the analytics and make recommendations. As a result, candidates should possess the interpersonal skills necessary to succinctly explain complex information to a broad audience. This is a “hands-on” role in which the candidate will be required to interact with department heads and senior management and will be able to contribute and make an impact. This position reports directly out of our dog friendly home office in beatiful Boulder, CO.


    Specific Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):


    1. Analysis

    • Develop financial models/reporting to analyze and evaluate Retail and Pharmacy performance. Interpret data to diagnose root cause issues. Provide input for business decisions by producing detailed financial models and P&Ls incorporating assumptions, expectations, and risks
    • Prepare presentations and other supporting materials for recommendations; participate in business case presentations to senior and executive management; clearly articulate conclusions
    • Proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiency in core Finance processes, to analyze the business from new value-added perspectives, and to enhance the strategic role of Finance in the organization


    2. Budgeting/Planning

    • Support the Director of Finance in managing the financial planning process
    • Create annual operating, overhead and capital budgets
    • Support monthly P&L review process by recapping actual sales and margin results versus plan, preparing monthly variance reports and analyzing key performance drivers
    • Present findings to corporate management that focus on year-over-year changes, key operating metrics, and key drivers of results
    • Create ad-hoc forecasts as needed to provide insights into areas of risk and opportunity and influence business strategies


    3. Accounting Support

    • Provide ongoing inventory analysis and support


    Job Requirements:

    • Bachelor degree in Finance or Accounting
    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a finance role
    • Strong financial analysis skills, knowledge of GAAP and an understanding of financial statements are required
    • Experience in the retail industry is preferred
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
    • Strategic and analytical orientation in the areas of finance, valuation and accounting
    • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong computer skills including advanced Excel skills; SQL knowledge is preferred
    • Ability to multi-task and efficiently plan, organize, and manage time
    • Ability to effectively communicate with all level of the organization
    • Hands-on, energetic, confident self-starter who is independent, creative and results oriented
    • Prior experience creating Board and investor/shareholder presentations and communications
